Here is a brief list of what to expect in the biggest Christmas market of Budapest. (Venue: Vörösmarty tér, last stop of M1 metro line. Meeting point for 10.30am General sightseeing walk and 2.30 Communist & Jewish walking tours)
What to expect: big square with more than 100 wooden pavilions, high quality folklore shows and thousands of applied arts products.
What to buy: Christmas decorations, candles, woollen hats and gloves, wrought iron, etc
What to eat: roast chestnut, chimney cake, deep fried potatoe dough with cheese and sour cream (called:La:ngosh),rooster testicles stew, stuffed cabbage and other market food.
What to drink: mulled wine and hot chocolate
What to see: performances by kids and folklore groups, puppet show, dance houses, string orchestra and choirs, playhouse, Santa Claus games, giant Christmas tree, Advent wreath etc.
When to come: November 18th-December 30th. The peak of the musical entertainment is when the ADVENT CALENDAR (contemporary art in Gerbeaud Café windows) is opened daily at 6pm and 8pm.
